Poor Fertility and Coffee

poor-fertility-coffee.jpg Even with modern advances in medicine, the effect of coffee on pregnant women still remains unclear. Taking too much coffee can reduce the chances of a woman with fertility problems getting pregnant, a study suggests. The study followed 9,000 women who had received IVF to see if they fell pregnant naturally. Around one in seven did, but consumption of more than four cups of coffee a day cut chances of conceiving by around 26%. This study only applied to women with poor fertility who wanted to maximize their chances of pregnancy. A lot of women can even have 20 cups of coffee a day to drink and still get pregnant while falling off a log, but if you’re already sub fertile it could push you over the edge

Aside from the caffeine in coffee, drinking alcohol on a regular basis carried the same risk as excessive caffeine intake and smoking more than one cigarette a day and being overweight reduced the chances of pregnancy even more. Women who wanted to enhance their chances of a natural pregnancy should avoid these foods and habits altogether. But even with this revelation, there is no need to cut caffeine or coffee out of the diet completely, scientific verification demonstrates that for pregnant women or those trying to conceive up to 300mg of caffeine per day is still perfectly harmless.
