Coffee Makes One Forgetful

Coffee | Memory Loss Drinking coffee in the morning may wake you up, but did you know that studies have suggested that drinking coffee might weaken your brains ability to recall words in the short run? Caffeine has been discovered to make people forget a word that they already knew. Scientist believe that this phenomenon caused by caffeine improves alertness by shutting down other brain functions thus making it harder to recall words.

In certain conditions, caffeine can actually help short term memory but could make it worse in others. By testing this theory in laboratory experiments, they found it can degrade or improve one’s memory depending on what you’re trying to remember. Words that sound similar to a question ask to you might yield a better result than one that has sounds nothing like the question.

Further studies are being conducted to discover the effect of drinking coffee with people having word retrieval difficulties or aphasia. But us coffee lovers shouldn’t worry too much about this since studies are still in the early stages and there are still no concrete proof about this outside the laboratories. Moderate consumption of coffee is still very much advised since coffee has a lot of health benefits.
