Coffee And Your Weight
Did you guys know that the coffee you are sipping right now could contain as much as a fifth of your daily recommended calories? Thinking about the number of calories in our coffee is perhaps the farthest thing we coffee connoisseurs have in mind, and besides, drinks that we traditionally perceive as having high calories are sodas and other sugary drinks. Coffee itself has very few calories especially black coffee but what we fail to notice are that add ons that come with our coffee drink, namely milk, whipped cream, chocolate chips and all sorts of assorted sweet toppings that all go so well. Some coffee drinks offered by well know shops were tested to have as much as 400 calories.
What can be done about this? I for one suggest that coffee shops should make their customers more aware of the number of calories that are contained in their products by printing them right beside the menu so we will be given the chance to choose which is the healthier choice. Countries like the US have already these kinds of guidelines in place and I am sure the Philippine government could also come up with a regulatory body that can deal with this issue. Well until that happen, we should choose what we order carefully and avoid products that contain too many sweets and whipped cream for a healthier and fat free lifestyle.
